Give these ads the boot

Was watching TV last night and I saw, once again, that NDP ad saying 'Liberals think they have your vote in the bag.' I don't they're stupid enough to think that at this point. OK, let me try that again. I hope they're not stupid enough to think that at this point.

Seriously though Dippers, that ad has been running for weeks. It’s time for a new one. The landscape has changed, and your strategy has to change with it. With a Conservative (majority?) government looming, you need to:

1) Stop your core vote from going to the Liberals to stop Harper.
2) Go after Liberal voters scared of Harper but no longer able to stomach the Liberals.

The ads you’re running aren’t going to do that. You seem to have lots of money; I’m seeing a fair bit of your ads. It’s time to cut some new ones Jack.

Go positive (wouldn’t that be a contrast to the other parties?). Only one party can stand up for your values, for the environment, for working Canadians, etc. Move to the centre a bit, leaving behind the socialist mantra about corporate tax cuts. The NDP could drop in the polls this week (see election 2004), or, if they play it right, they could make strong gains.

It’s going to be a long week, anything can still happen.

It's funny you would complain about the NDP ads given the height of hyprocrisy that the Federal Fiberals have gone to. They will scare anyone to get elected. And what about those ads scaring people that soldiers with guns would be in every city with a Conservative government? Oh right those were approved by that "idiot " Paul Martin according to Keith Martin...

People would rather have a soldier on every corner than a Liberal on every corner- they are more afraid of the "Hands in my Pocket" people.

Sigh. Read the post again. More slowly this time.

Forget the ads. Yesterday I heard Harper close a speech with the phrase "god bless Canada." This confirmation that Harper is a Repuglican sidekick made my stomach turn. To prevent the xtian fanatics from turning our country into a theocracy modelled after the US, it is vitally important for all rational Canadians to vote strategically. Direct your vote so that it will do the most good in stopping Harper and his band of Neanderthals. Vote for whichever party has the best chance of defeating the Conservatives in your riding. Do not waste your vote on some minor party.

Voting strategically is a good idea. B.C., Ontario, and some places in Quebec. The rest of us pretty much gotta vote straight up.

My constituency is a 3 way race and nobody has any idea what will happen, so even though my primary mission is to boot out the Libranos, I might as well vote my conscience.

In regards to somebody ending a speech with "God Bless Canada" ...please.

What did you want, "God Bless Buddha"??

There's plenty of criticism to go around about all of the parties' ad campaigns. The NDP should be totally focused on being "An effective voice for ordinary Canadians" or "Getting things done" or some such catchphrase rather than attacking the Libs and the Conservatives with petty side swipes. They should play to their strength.

Sidenote: That "God Bless Canada" thing creeped me out too.

Layton is going after the soft-Liberal vote on the hustings and in his earned media, I just think he needs to reinforce that message with his advertising. And with the public annoyed with negative ads from the Libs and Cons, there's an opportunity for the NDP to rise above the fray.

As for the God Bless Canada thing, I'm reminded of the movie Head of State with Chris Rock, where the opposing candidate would always say:

"God Bless America, and no place else!"

Going positive would be wonderful! When do the Liberals plan to start?

I find your "God Bless Canada" creepy statement kind'a unnecessary.

Part 1 - Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedons - 1982

starts thus...

"Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law:"

...seems like some of our "other" elected representatives recognized the supremecy God. Hmmm

Take care and God bless...
