They started it!

Whenever I read about nonsense like this:

Following the Liberal leadership convention, which saw Stephane Dion assume the party's helm, the Conservative Party website featured a picture of Mr. Dion with Jean Chretien, Paul Martin and John Turner. The caption read "Back to the Future".

I fully intend to post pictures like this:Or this:

Or maybe even this:
Because, you know, talking about the issues Canadians actually care about (health care, the environment) isn't fun at all is it Stephen?

I'd like to open the floor to clever movie-themed caption suggestions. Maybe Jurassic Park?

I guess I should prepare the Mulroney - May pictures...

And be sure to refer to the whole Conservative team as "Harponey".

Nice pics. After all, it's only fair.

Now which of Mulroney and Chretien was Canada's greenest PM? Good reminder of where genuine environmental concern lies. May was part of that honor too.

Anon, ask May what she thinks of Dion and Harper.

But, back to JC and Muldoon, remind me again which one expanded the deficit and which out eliminated it again, I forget?

The guy that eliminated the deficit, by cutting back on social transfers to the provinces thereby harming medicare, was the PM who spun too hard and lost the last election. Ah but PMPM is gone now. Liberals always thinking about money and big business huh. Hey this is great fun!

Good thing the Free Trade Agreement and the GST were there to keep the economy going & help fill the coffers, eh? Sure glad the Libs were never dumb enough to oppose those policies before they got into power in '93 :)

Jeff:

Is it me or are the Conservatives extra sensitive these last couple of weeks? I wonder what it is...

They've got their game faces on Devin. I guess they didn't hear Steve say he doesn't want an election until 2009.

Need I mention income trusts, Hickman? Senate appointments? Being elected to be in cabinet? Floor crossing?...

:)

Nope - all good points, though not all of 'em were campaign promises.

But it was always a bit amusing to see the Libs patting themselves on the back when (a) they opposed the policies I mentioned before '93, which made balancing the budget at least a *bit* easier, and (b) had the pre-93 Tories brought in the Martin-era spending cuts which also got the budget balanced, the pre-93 *Grits* would've howled to high heaven - as they did when much more modest measures were brought in my Mike Wilson et al.

Oh well - ancient history, I guess, especially to most of the younger ones around here who weren't even *born* in '84 ...

Mulroney the greenest during the "Ozone" issue - not climate change folks.

I think May arranged this to bring attention to our climate change problems more than anything.

The Conservatives just don't get it do they? You have to HAVE MONEY to spend money. You can't help out your family if you are broke yourself - not rocket science.

By the way, while our country was going down the tubes financially, Mulroney and his wife arranged for French tutors (from France) to come to Canada to teach his kids french (our french teachers weren't good enough) and then, while we were broke he toured the world on taxpayer money at the end of his reign as a final farewell - yup on taxpayer money when we were broke.

You see, they believe in spending money we don't really have.
