P.S. I wonder who is paying for this birthday party? I trust it’s not the taxpayers, surely Citizen Steve wouldn’t do that.

Yes. I've never seen that on a government press release before. Have you?

I don't think I have. It is a little unusual, particularly given that it is an Ottawa event, steps from the hill, so it will mainly be Hill reporters attending and I'd think their existing PPG accreditation would suffice.

While it's a tad defensive to say it explicitly on the release it is practice though, you can't just walk off the street and cover an event by the PM. When Martin came to my town for an event a few years back as the riding comms guy I had to pre-accredit the local media and print badges for them. It's a security thing.
