Khan's a liar, and Stock just outed him

Remember Wajid Khan saying it was the big meanie Stephane Dion telling him to choose a party already that forced him to cross the floor to the Conservatives? Remember Harper saying the same thing? Turns out, unsurprisingly, that was baloney. And, surprisingly, it was Stockwell Day that exposed them.

You know, Stock's constituency columns are just the gifts that keep on giving. Whether it's imaginary unrest in Mexico, questionable racial comments or global warming denials, Stockwell's columns have become must-reading for Canadian from coast to coast to coast.

In this week's column, after telling some hockey anecdotes, fawning over Harper's skill as a hockey analyst and commenting on the cabinet shuffle, Stock weighs in on the Wajid Khan crossing:

Somewhat in the shadows of all the Cabinet announcements there was another important change which took place that didn't get too much attention. A Liberal crossed the floor and joined the Conservatives. I also happen to know this individual fairly well. He's a very influential person in the Muslim community and well known in that capacity across the country. As a matter of fact I had the opportunity to hear him speak in a Toronto area mosque on one of the occasions when I was also invited to speak to a Muslim congregation.

Mr. Khan is a common sense guy who has been frustrated by a number of Liberal policies even when they were still the government. He knew a cabinet shuffle was coming but wanted to wait till after the announcement was made before he crossed the floor to join us. He didn't want any suggestion that he was doing this in hope of getting some kind of appointment.

I've bolded the important line. What Stock has done here is confirm that Wajid had already made his decision to cross the floor BEFORE Dion told him to make a choice. Unlike the Harper/Khan spin, the Dion "ultimatum" had absolutely no effect on Khan because he had already made up his mind to cross the floor; it was just the timing that was to be worked out.

Put this revelation into context now with Harper's refusal to release Khan's supposedly non-partisan report because he doesn't want the Liberals getting a whiff of his super-secret foreign election platform and the patronage appointment for Khan's former Conservative opponent.

It is increasingly clear that, despite the Conservative spin, the Khan crossing has been in the works for a long time.

Why don't they stop misleading Canadians and just say so?

You know, I'm really starting to like Stockwell Day a lot. That wide-eyed innocence and the complete inability to censor anything that travels between his brain and his mouth is becoming refreshing, in fact, endearing lately.

From the mouths of babes...

Why Harper hasn't tabled a bill explicitly forbidding Stockwell Day from writing any more columns, ever, is beyond me.

Seriously. Every single column says something politically damaging. It's like Stockwell Day doesn't know that his columns are available outside of the Okanagan. In fact, I think that's quite possible - "How can a story printed on paper travel through a series of tubes so quickly?!?"

So, Olaf...you'd prefer it if Harper did more to prevent the truth from coming out?

...why does that not surprise me?

Yes, yes, I know...Harper should be a better tactitian. Glad I'm not obliged to think so.

Note the all tinfoil wearers:

It's interesting how this post disproves the Liblogger notion that Harper stiffles all free speech amongst his members.

It would appears that Stockwell Day says whatever he wants, consequences be damned.

Harper does not have the political clout to stifle Stock. The so-cons will hang him high, a la Saddam ;-)

Hmmmmmmmm!! Doesn't all Stockwell's writings pass over Steve's desk and eyes "personally" since the "so-called global warming comments"? Seems that Steve does not possess the brilliant political strategy his admirers keep harping on.

Well, too many more "leaks" from Doris Day and he'll suddenly resign or be ousted or something (i.e. Garth Turner).

He doesn't want to take away from his photo-op campaign just now.

Good catch Jeff.

Olaf, I guess if I was a conservative, I'd feel the same way as you do, however, I have to agree with Ti-Guy in that I'm not comfortable with a government in power that is not allowed to speak.

Imagine if Harper let them all speak freely? A veritable gold mine me thinks.

What's wrong with lying? Seriously, you Liberals are always whining about having people impose their morality on you; stop laying your Jesus honesty trip on the Tories, man!

OK joking aside, the Tories should have stuck to the script: the Liberal party is hostile toward men in general, takes immigrants for granted, is completely obsessed with homosexuality, is addicted to spending tax dollars, and has moved too far left of mainstream Canadians and new Canadians.

The Liberals simply do not reflect the values of Christians, Muslims, and other morality-based folks, particularly those in high tax brackets, and that is why Wajid Khan made the eminently reasonable decision to join a party that is more respectful of him and his kind.

(on a slightly more agreeable note you're one of the very few Liberal bloggers who allows non-registered comments, good for you.)

As an exercise I'd invite you to look at the popular vote counts from the last election by political party, math that up with the position of that party on the political spectrum, and make a little chart. It would be helpful in locating the mainstream, and the results may surprise you.

the Liberal party is hostile toward men in general...is completely obsessed with homosexuality

That would seem to be contradictory...unless you mean we're only hostile towards straight men. Perhaps that would explain the dirty looks I've been getting at the weekly secret conspiracy meetings.

"...conspiracy meetings"

Hahaha, speaking of which I just realized Dion's never been invited to Bilderberg meetings or Bohemian Grove. This, in addition to his lack of charisma, guarantees another Conservative victory, or two.

The young people agree with me :-)

Perhaps because I'm a Conservative shill. Or maybe, because all Conservatives are evil. Or maybe, despite the fact that I know, like every rational person, that Harper is Lucifer incarnate, I do all in my modest power to keep him in power?

If you'll read closely, I didn't say that it is in everyones best interest if Harper muzzle Stock, but rather that it would be politically expedient to. I wasn't offering my preference, but rather my humble analysis.

The third one.

By the way, if you sum the letters in your comment, multiply by 48 and divide by 9, you get... 666.

Coincidence? I think not.

jeff and olaf, nice work.
I propose a poll be conducted:

What does Stockwell Day prove to you?

a)fashion advisers are undervalued
b)some times, abortions are necessary
c)we need to start human cloning beginning with Stock
d)peptobismal does not cure verbal diaherrea

Agreed, but also keep in mind he is hardly the first guy to do so. Some of what some people consider our "greatest leaders" have done the same thing. Harper is a strategist and I believe he looked at models of our most successful PMs and saw this as well. Trudeau and Deifenbaker are a couple that had their cabinets on a tight leash....

And yes, Stock is a moron....

Strange:

1) the distinction between "mainstream Canadians" and "new Canadians" from the new champions of diversity. Don't worry, the wacko lefties will help introduce you to diversity; like they have introduced you to global warming. Any other requests?

2) the discussion about Stock's freedom of speech instead of a lying PMO.
