My prediction for Monday night

The battle Monday night will be a tight one, and at this point it's really too close to call. While this is just one battle in the larger war, a lot of importance is being placed on the outcome, and the results will not be able to be ignored.

All week, the teams have been gearing-up for Monday night. Studying their opponents. Plotting their strategy. Calling in reinforcements to bring their teams up to full strength, to find that missing piece of the puzzle. On Monday night, it will be all hands on deck.

Frankly, I think the pressure being placed on some of the leaders here this early in their careers is unfair. No one, however, said this business was fair.

OK, enough stalling, who do I think will win?

As I said, it could go either way, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Philadelphia Eagles will defeat the Washington Redskins in Monday Night Football.

The Eagles have home field advantage, and Eagles QB Donovan McNabb is 9-4 with 2,616 passing yards and 21 touchdowns agasint the Redskins, and is 4-1 in his last five games against Washington.

Let me say this though: the talk I hear already calling for the head of Eagles coach Andy Reid if his team loses Monday are premature, and silly.

Yes, with a loss Reid's Eagles will be 0-2 but the season is young, and hes coming-up against a hot team in the Red Skins. To write the Eagles off two games into the season, with all the talent they have on their roster, would be foolhardy in my opinion.

We'll see what happens Monday but I hope that, whatever happens, on Tuesday morning Eagles fans will unite behind their team.

Go Eagles, tous ensemble!

I don't think anyone would blame a coach for losing the odd close game to squads on hot streaks, like the 'Skins, or to long-term powerhouses like the Patriots.

But if the Eagles drop games, at home, to long-time divisional doormats, you're going to hear some rumblings that the O-line or special teams coaches should get a chance to wear the big headset. Especially if the fans decide that what works at the college level doesn't cut it when you're playing with the pro's.

But the thing is Jason, I think the o-line has stopped performing lately, they've been phoning it in.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think it's because the offensive coordinator is after the coach's job, and he thinks if they lose this game the coach might get the axe, and he'd be the logical choice for interim coach.

Sure they both interviewed for the job, but ownership hired whom they hired, and I think everyone needs to be team players here, don't you?

Oh, absolutely. And after years of watching their arch-rival Dallas Cowboys crumble as a result of internal divisions, you'd think the Eagles would've learned not to let it happen to them.

On the other hand, it certainly shows that even teams that look like forever-contending dynasties can fall apart once they start losing some games.

For a team that started with such high hopes, the Eagles may have to "celebrate" a narrow victory. Even if that victory comes on Monday, however, a 9-and-7 type season won't get them into the Super Bowl.

Oh, and I forgot: if the head coach is blaming one of his assistants for a possible loss *even before the kickoff*, let alone before the end of the 4th quarter - well, that doesn't look good either.

You win some and you lose some, but one loss does not a season doom.

if the head coach is blaming one of his assistants for a possible loss *even before the kickoff*, let alone before the end of the 4th quarter - well, that doesn't look good either.

That wasn't the head coach, that was one of his idiot cousins. You can't blame the coach for the rantings of his idiot cousins.

You can if the idiot cousin keeps getting jobs beyond the position of "waterboy" :)

Ha! It so happens that my browser hung while loading your page and so I couldn’t scroll down to the bottom of it for 20 seconds or so. It stopped just where you said “Okay, enough stalling…”

It certainly added a nice touch when IE unlocked so I could scroll down to find you’d flipped it to a football prediction. Nice one!

You should use Firefox Red, not IE.

But what were you expecting besides a football prediction. Is something else happening tonight of note...?

Jason, the idiot cousin only is the water boy, but when he's quoted anonymously it makes him seem like he's in a position of greater authority than he is.
