Liberals won't prop up Tories anymore: Ignatieff

SUDBURY - Sources say Michael Ignatieff has decided his Liberals will no longer support the Harper government.

But that doesn't mean he'll move quickly to bring the minority Conservatives down either.

Senior Liberal sources say their leader will announce in a speech to caucus today that the party won't vote to prop up the government anymore.

That means the Tories could fall on a key vote this fall unless the NDP or Bloc Quebecois do an about-face and decide to back them.

On Monday, Ignatieff said the government is on `life support.'

The Liberals will have their first opportunity to present a motion of non-confidence the first week of October, but Ignatieff isn't saying if he'll do that.

Yeah, things are getting serious. The Liberals where I live are door-knocking.

Whoo hoo! Ignatieff pleasantly surprises me for a change.

When he says they won't prop them up, does that mean everyone in caucus will show up to vote against the government? I may be an old cynic, but we have been down this path a few times already and before I celebrate, I want to be sure there is something to celebrate.
