Video: Bob Rae on piano singing "Stephen Harper: He Prorogues"

Last night I attended a party at the Royal York for supporters of the Liberal Party's Victory Fund. I'll have more a little later this morning, including video, on Michael Ignatieff's speech and his promise of concrete and substantive policy at the policy forums the party is holding next week as Liberals return to work on January 25th.

First, I wanted to share some video of what was for most of us there the highlight of the evening. Among the entertainers was Liberal MP Bob Rae, who sat down at the piano and played (and sang) a number of songs for everyone. (Alas no, he didn't play With a Little Help From My Friends.)

In the highlight, he re-wrote the lyrics to Let it Be by The Beatles (what is it with politicians and The Beatles?) and called it Stephen Harper: He Prorogues.

Enjoy.

That. Was. Brilliant.

Bob Rae always has a talent for quick quips ("I'm not waffling - I'm skating"), but this was gold. Thanks for posting it!

Imitation is the best form of flattery.

I am glad the LPOC are trying to raise funds to pay off all their debts.

Bob would have not taken time of last december and allowed Harper to introduce another budget. Bob would have tried to sell the coalition.

Bob Rae was my York South Weston MP. It is a shame he has been reduced chasing small issue that are media driven.

Plagerism and now prorogue.

Oh my, CS. I usually try not to let the partisan jibber-jabber get to me, but that's just pretty silly.

First, Bob Rae has been playing the piano and singing in public and private since Stephen Harper was in diapers. I hear he even played and sang "Oh, we ain't got a barrel of money" at Convocation Hall when he became NDP premier back in the early 90s.

Second, you need to lighten up and get a sense of humour! It's light, it's funny. Live a little. Not everything is an excuse to go off on a partisan screed. Go for a walk, maybe go see a movie, but exhale and relax a little. You'll live longer.

Jeff,

I have said for the record Bob Rae is the best orator in the HOC.

I have also said he would not have repeated the strategic mistakes of Dion, Ignatieff.

My voting record for Bob Rae was 100% in my youth. I did not abandon him because he asked the public service unions to share some cuts.

Some of us hoped he would have brought some discipline back to the Liberals, chasing the real issues that affect Canadians.

We need a "credible" opposition party in Ottawa. At present we have the liberals driven by photoshop-props for publicity.

Personal shots aside Jeff, it is the "long game" and not the stunts that win the day.

When are the policies and alternatives promised last May-June going to be discussed in the HoC?

Harper was plagiarizing Bill Clinton - I guess everyone forgot about his sax performance (that was SAX - get your minds out of the gutter) on the "The Arsenio Hall Show" :)
