The intrusive census, Greece edition

In a story on Greece's attempts at financial reforms, as usual the lame-stream media buried the real story: the super-intrusive Greek census! It seems the Greek government wants to know how many people it has working for it:

This week, Greece completed a special census to determine how many people are on the public-sector payroll – a number that has never been known, making cuts or assessments of their value difficult.
I can't believe the people of Greece stood for this unwarranted and unprecedented intrusion into their privacy! The government has no right to know if it's employing me or not! That's personal information. I mean, it's a slippery slope! First, they'll want to know if I work for them. Then they'll ask how many bedrooms I have. And then, it's a police state.

Thank-goodness this could never happen in Canada. This proves why we need to spend $16 billion on F-35s to defend our borders.

No, this proves why we need to tuck our shirts into our underwear.

(...what? It makes as much sense as attempting to link the census with F-35s, doesn't it?)

Well Fred it beats the government's explanation of why we need them so far.

The Government has published their priorities on upgrading the military, the F35 will be coming online as the CF near the end of their useful operational life?

What does this have to do with Greece?

Chretien Liberals paid a $ 500 million dollar penalty canceling the previous helicopter contracts and we still don't have the replacements promised in the air?

Liberals did the same thing with maternal health and twisted the issues to make it about abortions to score cheap political points.

Two voluntary polls show Liberals, NDP voters have NO problem with filling out the mandatory long form so it should be NO problem in collecting the information.

All these special interest groups can also send letters to their members to remind them to fill out the form and pretend it is mandatory to save Canada from these Visigoths trying to sack Rome.

Canadian sense suggested that only NDP/Lib types should fill out the mandatory parts of the census. Of course the reformatorts would then use that info to show that these forms are too slanted to the left and discard them since democracy is one of their last priorities.

As for the F35 issue these clowns do not want parliament to vet their sole source purchase nor have the public understand why their money is being spent this way since that involves democray.

Chretien cancelled the helicopters because Mulroney nearly left us broke as a Country just like Harper will do if he's given more time to p*** away our credit rating.

The government still hasn't proven its point as to why the contract for these planes wasn't open to bids: even the the lemonade stand on the culdesac understands about margins and how competition lowers prices.
But just as CONbots can shriek one hand about deficits and boondoggles, they play the three monkeys (seeno, hearno, speak no)when their own team operates the same and even worse -- spending more money on a census that will be less effective (and possibly worthless, if we can believe our friends' to the south)...

rockfish two links that may help with the background on those JSF's.

Regardless if you agree with every decision, setbacks are delays are still taking place in several areas regarding the upgrading and spending in our military.

March 12, 2008
Proceeding with the major combat fleet replacements of surface combat ships, maritime patrol craft, fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft, fighter aircraft, and land combat vehicles and systems.

The replacement of a fighter is clear cut. The CF-18 fleet will reach the end of its life in the
2017-2020 timeframe and the CFDS confirms the continuation of this capability. While a
contract award could be delayed to about 2012/13, Canada’s participation in the US Joint
Strike Fighter project offers considerable opportunities for Canadian industry now. Canada
has invested and committed over $US500 million to the JSF program15 to the significant
benefit of Canadian companies who have won contracts for JSF-related work.
Consideration should be given to an early decision on the choice of replacement aircraft (if
not a definite contractual commitment) for the benefit of domestic industry. If the JSF is
chosen, high-technology opportunities could be continued into the longer term, currently
estimated to be four decades.16
