Seeing Tory double
OTTAWA _ Note to Tory war room: not a good idea to shoot down allegations of plagiarism with copycat notes.
Conservative officials responded to fresh allegations Friday about plagiarism involving a speech by Stephen Harper by using identical wording.
First, Harper spokesman Dimitri Soudas sent an email that began: ``We're not going to respond to every wild allegation from a panicked campaign that doesn't want to talk about its own policies.''
A short time later, war-room spin-doctor Dan Dugas fired out a nearly identical note that started off: ``We're not going to respond to every wild allegation from a panicked campaign that doesn't want to talk about its own policies.''
Ironically, Dan Dugas is a former journalist. He was the long-time Hill reporter for CP Broadcast News. I met him briefly when I was a student journalist on the hill back in the day. Very good impressions of political leaders. I think I know how his bosses at CP would have felt about plagiarism.
Oh, and one last note of irony. The Conservative line repeated above is the exact same response the Conservatives first had when confronted with the Australian plagiarism allegations. Because it worked so well the first time... Recommend this Post on Progressive Bloggers
