Conservatives use tax dollars to link BQ to pedophilia

Just when you thought the Conservatives couldn't sink any lower, comes word of their latest disgusting but taxpayer-funded 10-per center mailer. This one in Quebec targets the Bloc Quebecois:

A pervert in a plaid shirt is luring a child in a park, but the Bloc Québécois will not do anything to stop him, the Conservative Party says in a new round of attack ads.

The message, which was sent at taxpayers' expense in every single Bloc riding, features a blurry picture of a small boy leaving a park with an older man. The two are walking hand-in-hand, and a nearby kiddy swing is empty.

“Your Bloc MP has voted against the protection of children,” the tag line states.
Such an attack would be disgusting no matter who footed the bill. But the fact the Conservatives are using 100 per cent taxpayer dollars to launch this vicious and classless attack makes it all the more galling. It brings to mind the Paul Martin/child pornography attack the Conservatives launched during the 2004 election that was one of the factors that cost Stephen Harper that election.

The Conservatives have been abusing the 10 per center privilege for years, but they've reached a new low of late. They've also been using 10 per centers, which are supposed to be used to inform Canadians on policy, to launch scandalous personal attacks against the Liberals and Michael Ignatieff that ape the messages of their paid attack ads:

In the last week, several Tory MPs have sent out newsletters to tens of thousands of Canadians which contain two full pages of content that reproduces the messaging and graphics in the recent "Just Visiting" attack ads paid for by the Conservative Party of Canada.

The newsletters — which are produced and mailed at taxpayer expense — include attack ads that say Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff would raise taxes and suggest he is not qualified to be prime minister because he has spent most of his career working outside the country.

Its a line of attack by the way that even Harper himself has admitted is hot air.

Fair-minded Conservatives should be disgusted by the behavior of their party. Even if they agree with the thrust of these reprehensible attacks, the should still be sickened over the blatant use of taxpayer dollars for purely partisan political attacks and advertising, something that supposedly goes against everything they've ever stood for.

Is this really the government that you worked to elect? Are you proud of what your leaders are doing in your name, my Conservative friends?

All MPs except the Bloc and ONE Liberal MP voted for Bill C-268 which had everything to do with Child trafficking. The Bloc deserves to be slagged for this and it's sad to see this topic turned into partisan fodder.

When the Edmonton Journal is condemning the CPC, you know things are bad:

What were the Bloc’s objections? Was it to mandatory sentences, perhaps? That would hardly make them allies of child molesters – just opponents of a bill which they considered (rightly or wrongly) a flawed tool for controlling human trafficking.

The Bloc voted against it because the Bloc is against minimum sentences - they want to give the judges the leeway to make the appropriate decision.

That's it, that's all. Nothing more than that. There is no evidence that minimum sentences have an effect on criminality. The only thing it does is make uninformed people feel like they've done something.

Jeff the Liberals do not have a leg to stand on. For starters, I get 10% from the Liberals and Conservatives. As for Bill-C268, I am with the Bloc in upholding the principle of judicial discretion in the face of Conservative and Liberal idiocy.

Hope the MSM picks up on this one like they did with the latest Vic Toew's 10%er on Ignatieff & Ukrainians. These things are pure campaigning & the taxpayer shouldn't be paying for them with printing & mailing costs. What a sick, sick Party these Cons are.

Koby, all parties send out 10%ers. But not all parties use them to accuse their opponents of supporting pedophilia, or to reproduce their negative ads. It's not the medium, its the message. There are rules around content. There's also common decency.

The Tories did the same to Paul Martin in 2004. When backed into a corner, the Tories always reach into their "They are pedophiles" bag.

You realize, of course, that this particular species, once known as the CPC, is now extinct.

I understand the "New" tory party put a bounty on them. A culling of the herd, if you will. If, indeed, any are left, they've long gone underground.

Liberal MP Pablo Rodriguez put out a 10%er suggesting the CPC would kill CBC,
showing the logo of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as seen through a rifle site , stating "Endangered Species?"

So tell me what the difference is.

Liberal fear mongering (twisting the truth)is ok, as usual.

wilson, I haven't seen that one. Send me a link and I'll check it out.

To clarify though, is your position "Liberals do it too so its fine" or "they all suck"?

In case the whole issue of why Liberals, NDP and Bloc are "soft on crime" dates back to the days of PET. He said (paraphrase) that the purpose of the justice system was to provide rehabilitation NOT to provide protection for society.
Go figure. Victims are now treated as an inconvienience. This is what Canadians find both frustrating and puzzling. This should not be an either/or. Both rehabilitation and Justice for victims have a place in dealing with crime. The Conservative approach is to provide legislation for "repeated","violent" offenders, where rehab has already been tried. We need to get some common sense back!

I am interested in where you get your information. Trudeau was PM a long time ago, and there have been a lot of changes to the Criminal Code since then.

Changes like:

Victim Impact Statements being read in court by the victims of the offences (LPC measure)

Anti-Stalking legislation (LPC)

Sex offenders registry (LPC)

DNA databank (LPC)

Peace Bonds - allow the police to obtain a court order restraining sex offenders from attending at certain places (LPC)

Victims have a right to certain information about the offenders in the YCJA (LPC)

Victims may participate in community conferencing where they have an opportunity to confront their perpetrator (LPC)

If you cannot bother informing yourself before you post your opinions, you are part of the problem.

More tax payer funded BS from the Reformatories...Their motto must be "BS baffles brains"

With this 10 percenter, along with the one Toews sent out, shows that the current regime lacks decency, honesty and is continuing to mislead/lie to Canadians.

Wilson: How dare you compare the "CBC cuts" to pedophilia even if it's to show, as you called it, "fear mongering"?

The Liberals skewer the truth? Take a look at your own party...plenty of lies/mistruths there

Indeed not all parties use their 10%ers to attack the opposition. I have never seen or heard of the NDP doing so and under Dion I do not believe the Liberals did either. However, things have changed under Iggy. I now get both Liberal and Conservative attack 10%ers in my mail box.

As for trying Conservatives trying to tar other parties by suggesting that they are soft on pedophiles etc, I have long maintained that this has been a Conservative tallking point for a long time now.

I pointed this out to you in 2006. http://bcinto.blogspot.com/2006/01/how-to-loose-friends-and-piss-people.html

Me: "I see you have bought it into the Conservative mythos about the child porn being the work of some over zealous staffer. It was a talking point. This is one reason why Harper never agologized."

ROTFLMAO
Legislation by knee-jerk.
"If you don't agree with us, the boogyman will get your children"
What utter tommyrot

Not to mention the fact that many CPC supporters and donors have bought into their myth that the CBC Is biased against the CPC and support cutting off public funding for this network.

Last I checked I did not notice any Bloc supporters publicly demanding pedophilia be legalized.

They do. I live in Linda Duncan's riding and received many from Layton before she won the election (I still voted for her). They have stopped now.
