Our "liberal" media at work

So late this afternoon its quietly announced that the Conservatives are dropping the $3.5 million libel lawsuit against the Liberal Party over the Cadman affair. Gee, the Prime Minister dropping a libel lawsuit against the main opposition party, questions still unanswered about just what "financial considerations" they offered a dying MP for his vote and what Harper knew and when. That seems newsworthy, yes?

Let's see how our infamous "liberal" media, as my conservative friends insist on liking to call them, are playing the story.

First, here's the National Post. They do give the story third-billing, so that's something. It might have gotten top billing, but this peanut butter story makes Watergate look like a church picnic, so how could they not lead with it?


How about the Globe and Mail. It's there somewhere, I'm sure...let's see, big photo of Harper with hockey players, he's doing something with arenas it seems, but I'm not sure what...there it is, third story, next to something about chickens chasing foxes.

Let's wander over to CTV. Obama looking pissed off, a cop looking even more pissed off...look, a kitten...now where's the story, must be here somewhere...ah, there it is, right between Harper saying Duffy insenuating a sexual relationship between two premiers was "perhaps" inappropriate and a gay couple married in Canada getting divorced in New Jersey. One of these stories is not like the other, one of these things is not the same...

Meanwhile, still nothing over in Blogging Tory-land on how this is a huge victory for their Dear Leader as I write this at 9:34PM EST. But if you want to read about reptile crap, people with accents arguing over fruit or Prince Charles' investment strategies, you're in luck.

Fun with Conservatives

Came across this Conservative blog posting about the Young Liberals’ cheeky Take Back Canada campaign:

That is the message coming from the Liberal Party of Canada's youth wing. Take back from who exactly I am not quite sure. I never realized it was missing. Did you?...

Perhaps GPConservative should ask his leader, Deceivin’ Steven:

“The news is spreading throughout the world: Canada's back,” Mr. Harper told the Ottawa crowd Sunday.

So, there you go GPC, Canada was missing. How do I know? Harper told me it was. But thankfully what once was lost has now been found, courtesy Deceivin’ Steven. GPC goes on to say:

Canada was not stolen from them like a possession of theirs, as they seem to believe. Yet somehow they think there is a need to take it back.

Umm, see above. Did Harper get that message there GPC? I don’t think he did.

Speaking of arrogance, how about Peter Van Loan, who tells us only Conservatives are real Canadians?

"Let me tell you what a real Canadian is. A real Canadian is somebody that stands-up for middle class taxpayers, helps working families with lower taxes, stands behind our troops when they're off in Afghanistan, and who does what he said he would do. That's what real Canadians are, and those are Conservatives."

Dipping into the cesspool

By now I’m sure you’ve heard the story of Royal Galipeau (David Akin was there), the Conservative MP that yesterday crossed the floor of the House of Commons, climbed-up into the Liberal opposition benches to confront Liberal MP David McGuinty, verbally assaulting him, “making threats” and even “grabbed his left shoulder” in an unprecedented breach of Parliamentary decorum, not to mention decency and common sense.

At least Galipeau has come to his senses and later offered an apology to McGuinty. Most people will agree that Galipeau was out of line and an apology was very much in order, because you’d think we could agree grabbing opponents on the floor of the HoC and yelling at them isn’t exactly parliamentary. But that everyone doesn’t include our Blogging Tory and other conservative blogging friends.

I wonder if they’ll call Royal a pussy for apologizing to David. After all, they don’t think he did anything wrong. Here’s a sampling from the nutfarm:

Joan Tintor says Good for Galipeau: “No doubt McGuinty the Lesser will stage an impromptu news conference, sporting the usual expression of pained piety he wears like a neck brace on a phoney car accident plaintiff.”

The Hammer of Thor says Cry, Cry, Cry, Cry..: “Now the panty waisted David McGuinty is whining and sniveling because he was poked in the shoulder in the "Ugly Brawl" by Royal Galipeau. This is getting to the point that even I am feeling embarrassed for the lib's. C'mon guys - BE A MAN!”

Halls of Macadamia says David McGuinty pees himself…: “Royal Galipeau, 60 years old, is one scary-ass parliamentarian. Run, McGuinty! Run!”

NB Tory Lady says We are on to you Liberals!!: “I find it very unparliamentary of David McGuinty to cry fowl when he so blatently threw a remark at Royal Galipeau during his question period time. It is clear Mr. Galipeau is a model of decorum 99 percent of his parliamentary time and that he was defending his honour and he admits, he acted in anger and utter shock.”

Unhyphenated Canadian writes WWF comes to Ottawa: “Royal Galipeau, 60 years old, is one scary-ass parliamentarian. Run, McGuinty! Run!”

(BCer says: I assume they meant WWE, because after a trademark fight the WWF now refers solely to the World Wildlife Fund, unless that’s what they actually meant…)

The Nexus of Assholery says David McGuinty living in fear of political opponent: “David McGuinty may well be a pussy…Apparently, David McGuinty is just a pussy.”

Dust my Broom says You call this a brawl?: "Give me a friggin’ break…Apparently he grabbed his shoulder. Did the media even look at who they were?... What a loser.”

Reading comprehension

I don't expect people to agree with what I write; indeed, with conservatives dominating blogland I expect most people to disagree. Might be nice though if people actually, I don't know, READ the post before telling me how wrong I am.

Take Blogging Tory Aaron, who, in response to this post, wrote this on his blog:

It’s not fair, either!

Except, had Aaron actually read the post he's attempting to mock, he'd see the poll numbers weren't bad at all. Allow me to refresh your memory:

Cons 36, Liberals 31. From the last poll, Cons down 4, Liberals up two. Since the election Cons unchanged, Liberals up one.

What bad polling numbers? Indeed, if you were to try to call these poll numbers bad for the Liberals, you'd have to call them catastrophically monumentally terrible for the Conservatives. Which he'd have seen if he'd read it, it being like the entire point of the post.

We're serious about the environment, honest!

While Steve Harper would have us believe he totally believes in getting serious about the environment and global warming, that he all of a sudden realizes it is a serious problem that needs to be tackled, and that his commitment is genuine and not based on polling and political wedges, it would seem his blogging army hasn't quite gotten the message:

The link would appear to go to a video questioning global warming science, although the link was dead last I checked. Interesting though that Blogging Tory admins would chose to highlight what they call "the great global warming swindle" while their leader is trying to convince Canadians he totally believes in the so-called science.

Makes one wonder just how genuine the commitment Harper and hos Conservative brethren profess really is, and wheter or not it would continue once they had a majority government...
